I am in this parallel universe for a few days now. I thought it is going to be easier.
It’s a scorching evening. The air con has given up a long time ago. It’s been a wreck anyways, just cranking out noise aimlessly.
The neon lights are shining through the drapes. It’s a burning hell out there.
Still, every so often a gentle breeze comes through and cools the burning brow. I need a drink.
I descend the stairs to that long hallway. The iron door is squeaking loudly from its joints when I open it.
I go through the dark alley where the cats are rummaging through the smelly dumpsters.
My mind is racing with thoughts. I haven’t managed to find those bastards.
But wait…a horn! The sound of the breaks screeching! A moment of inattention and I was almost shattered by a car.
The car door is opening, and I freeze for a few moments.
There she is! She’s like the wind.
Her wavy hair; flying in twins; as she comes closer in a hurry to ask me if I am all right,
Her voice is music to my ears. I can’t resist it. It’s like the song of a mermaid.
I forget everything. I am speechless; my dark thoughts are gone in an instant. She is too good to be true.
She is like a goddess. I have not seen such beauty since...
No! No! Not again! Forget the memories! Don’t bring them up!
It’s here! It’s now! Don’t waste this moment!
I have to get back to reality! Light a cigarette, show her everything is under control.
I feel so vulnerable and yet I am in control of the situation.
